Thinking too much but never fast enough is a horrible curse.

Wow...almost 2 months since my last post.  Not that I haven't meant to post about a dozen times, about anything from the strange pleasure of artistic graffiti, to an idea for a website that may or may not ever come into existence, to the fact that I'm now working full time, to seeing good friends graduate college and move away.

No, the problem is that I've gained the laziness that comes with complacency.  I finally have a job that I enjoy, I'm getting along well with my family, I'm paying bills that are long overdue, I'm making new friends and spending time with the current ones on a weekly basis at least (which isn't bad when you work 2nd shift).  Some people would say this is the good life minus a girlfriend.  I say it's a rut.  I have dreams, but they get muddled.  I have ideas, but never take the steps to make them reality.  I'm presented with opportunities every day to be more than I'm letting myself be, but I let them pass by without even thinking about it.  My life has become both comfortably enjoyable and exceedingly frustrating at the same time.  What I need right now is a determination that I've only shown at a handful of  moments in my life.

And jellybeans.

Lessons From Working at AAA

1) The reason people drive tow trucks is usually not because of their amazing people skills

2) Having a large number of call centers in your city like Omaha, Nebraska does says nothing about the customer service skills of people who live in the surrounding area.

3) People who are stranded on the side of the road can actually be very talkative and friendly considering the situation they're in.

4) Never get  surgery done at the Des Moines Surgery Center in Des Moines, Iowa.  If you want to know why, ask the guy who opened a funeral parlor right next door to it.

Firefly - The Complete Series
By Ron Glass, Nathan Fillion

A bit over a year ago my friend Trevor invited me to check out Joss Wheton's movie Serenity with him.  He's a Joss Wheton fan and hyped the guy's work enough for me to give the movie a shot.  He was excited about the movie.  I was a little skeptical.  He liked the movie.  I thought it was interesting, but didn't live up to the hype.

Out of curiosity and a vague idea for a fan video of a series I've never seen, I started ordering Firefly, the series Serenity concludes.  The first DVD was ok.  The second was good.  The third made me realize why the series was worth watching (and convinced me to buy the series before I saw the last disk).  The last one gave me reason to imagine how much better it could have been if it wasn't canceled.

If I could put one major flaw on the series as a whole (other than the country theme song), it'd probably be the lack of an engaging story.  That's not to say the story's bad by any means.   The problem is that the entire first DVD was devoted to you getting to know the characters, which was great in the long run because his characters are the strongest point of the series, but the stories were lacking because of it.  Beyond that first DVD, they do get better, but by and large, the characters  are the draw, not the story.

Still, great series, well worth picking up (half off at best buy this week).  If I ever find a readily available video capture program for my computer, I'll post said fan video.  Till then, it'll stay in my head.

Call me behind the times, but I'm just figuring out how amazing iTunes is.  I've always known they had a great selection of music (compared to other music services), but podcasts are slowly eating away my life.  And this after only subscribing to 4 of them.  This American Life, Gamasuetra Radio, Mars Hill Bible Church, and 1Up Yours are all well worth listening to.  Just don't blame me if you find yourself listening to the radio less.
